Did you know that? No, me neither. Mind you this precedes even me. And actually, looking at the cover this was way ahead of it’s time. The British version, of which this is one, had a fab psychedelic cover that Hendrix a few years later would have been proud of. Maybe they thought a picture of a clean cut US band wearing cardies (ask your gran) would not cut it. But at least you had the music to look forward to.
So what stands out? Well, I had heard ‘Walk don’t Run’ somewhere before? Working blind I would have guessed ‘The Shads’ and for anyone unfamiliar with ‘The Ventures’ and perhaps unsure what to expect, remember ‘The Shads’ and you won’t be far off. But where have I heard it? Absolutely no idea.
They were responsible for a phenomenal throughput of music. According to the sleeve, four LP’s a year. FOUR ! And any American family with a teenager in the household were found to own 1.3 Ventures albums. Bet you didn’t know that. I didn’t.
