Back in the day, LP’s were kicked out regularly. Almost as regularly as the Tories go through leaders nowadays, or more recently chancellors. Or actually, both….I digress. Just as you are getting to know one LP, whoa, hold on here comes another. The Hollies were in that mix. This was one of their first and whilst they went on to be massive this was typical early – mid 60’s pop. A sound from an era, where the power lay primarily with the record companies and management rather than the artist, I suspect a band like the Hollies worked very hard to get established before realising they were working very hard for the benefit of others.
Noticeable in those days were songs with harmonies. They have all but disappeared but it’s easy to spot and define music from the era. It’s a warm comforting sound in some ways. Wouldn’t get a look in nowadays and I think that’s a key reason to buy something to add to a collection. This is a fine example of pure pop, the bubblegum of the 60’s. It has a place, it still sounds fresh and this example is up there as one of the best…
