A band with an interesting history, some of the members later lived amongst the under privileged communities in Denmark, supporting political movements in the Palestinian regime. After their initial breakthrough via the [part] West coast influenced psych rock sound, some of the [key] band members wanted to move into the soul and gospel arena.
Which is interesting, and evident from the opener of this LP. Contrast the rock drive of ‘Long before I was born’ (sounds like me on piano at the outset and I can’t play anything) with the second track, ‘I’m walking through the door’, a somewhat more mellow, slightly dreamy track without that edginess but still with the drive. To my ear the hardness was provided by the lead vocal, Annisette, with a vocal style, not too unlike Kate Bush in rock form, which I think you would either love and devour or perhaps look beyond.
I wouldn’t say this was directionless but it certainly took you, successfully, down different avenues. Maybe ‘experimental’ in some ways but not in a way that they didn’t know what they were doing, more a case of not knowing how far to proceed down any one street. Well worth considering especially if you are exploring the variety of psych rock exponents from across Europe at the time.
