I’ve not come across an LP like this before. There are a few self penned tracks by one of the band members, Barney Trevivian, and the remaining tracks are an assortment of covers. And probably tracks your mother used to listen to on Radio 2 before the current wave of presenters hit the airwaves earlier this century and moved Radio 2 into slightly more progressive, mainstream territory.
When I was growing up, because of the location where I lived, live music was pretty much limited to local bands playing clubs and pubs. And we had some storming nights, usually involving copious amounts of alcohol and lifts home begged or stolen. And many of those bands gave good value. And as much as I’d like to promise you something similar with this offering. I have to say I can’t. I am no massive Stevie Wonder fan but I did identify classy songs when they came along. And ‘Misstra knowitall’ in my mind was one of them. Well, it’s covered, and destroyed totally on here. If you wish to do a cover don’t mess with a classic song.
Cornwall, from where these guys hail, is a lovely part of the world and it has much to offer. But just not this LP. I really can’t fathom who the audience is for this. If you want some good songs to enhance an evening at home with friends, just go out and buy the originals. Sorry guys, someone may get something from this but the cover of ‘Lying eyes’ leaves me wanting to listen to the Eagles. And I never thought I would be left thinking along those lines
