The vinyl is a little crackly throughout, but especially on Side 2 from midway on….

It’s a Peru edition, albeit in English and thus the crispness of the words and pictures is a little underwhelming. Nay, blurred. But that’s how, I’m sure, it was on Day 1. The cover is a  little rubbed around the edges with a clear insert but for 50+ years, in pretty good condition for the age.

Printed in Peru, reviewed in middle England more than 50 years later. What journey brought it here? If you look at the print locations of this LP, I think they were trying to ensure every corner of the planet had work. Name a country. This LP was printed there at some point.

There was a commercialism in here and it wasn’t ashamed to show it. But actually, get yourselves down to Track 5 on Side A, ‘Feelin’ Blue’ and you then get a sense of what you feel this band was all about. A simple, toe tapping, bluesy number that would have caught your attention no matter where you were or what you were doing. It was almost like they cut short one or two of the songs prior to this one, in the hope they could play the final number.

Most of the songs on here are short and sharp. This seems at odds somehow to what you think blues music should hold to, in term of it’s values. It’s almost ‘Elvis like’ in bashing out songs which would satisfy an audience without hanging around too long. But what it lacks in terms of depth and feeling, it more than makes up for in terms of providing an insight into a successful band from the late 60’s and especially the 70’s that went on to have huge commercial success.
